From our reporters in Germany

Causing trouble

paul_fletcher.gifA MOTORWAY, TOWARDS STUTTGART - Fresh from doing three-point turns on the finishing straight at Hockenheim on Wednesday, we are now heading further south.

Last night we watched Germany's narrow win over Poland in the beautiful town of Heidelberg, but the evening was not without its more unsavoury aspects.

Ricco and I went into a bar for the second half and sat down next to some Australians, who informed us that there has just been an incident involving some of our fellow countrymen.

Apparently a dispute broke out over a bill - charged for 26 shots, wanted to pay for 25 - that resulted in a minor scuffle and a call to the police.

heidelbergfansphotosdayseve.jpg Later on in the evening I had a chat with the waiter involved and it would be fair to say that the whole matter was still very much at the front of his mind.

He was certainly no shrinking violet and explained that when somebody jumped on his back he punched them - hard.

The story got a bit confusing at this point but the gist seemed to be that he then ended up settling the bill as compensation for his actions and the English subsequently left.

The waiter, a feisty and slightly flustered gentleman originally from Pakistan, explained that although he is 46 he is very strong - and that anyone who works in the bar will willingly confirm this.

Incidentally, he expects Brazil to win the tournament and believes Germany and England to be equal in footballing ability.

Images on the news from the confirmed that Wednesday was the night when the more ugly side of the beautiful game reared its head.

We had been in Dortmund just a few days ago and the vibe was welcoming and friendly but I got a text message from a friend who was there last night.

Unfortunately he told me that it was "going off" all over the city.

I have to say that I have not felt at any point so far as though I was in a situation where things could turn nasty, apart from the odd time when Ricco has been behind the wheel.

This afternoon we are going to try to find the bakery in Stuttgart owned by the , while I might visit a chemist to see if they can do anything for my feet.

Blisters - pop 'em or squeeze 'em?

Only thing to do with blisters is to milk them - for all they are worth!

Go on TV and radio and explain that it is hotter than you anticipated or have trained for and this has caused blisters and unbelievable tiredness. Try to find a completlely useless substitute driver and swop drivers after an hour.

Try to give real examples of the heat problems like the fact that the Hockenheim lap would haev been faster but for the blister on your accelerator foot or the fact that you are having to take in incredible large amounts of fluid in the form of German Lager.

And dont forget to tell Svan that you are unavailable for selection for driving duty.

A novel approach that i dont think has been tried before ..... or has it?

Compeed offers a range of blister "band-aids" that work very well. You should be able to pick them up from every pharmacist / Apotheke.

Oh dear - it's a shame that a few idiots ruin a great occasion for many.

It's a small consolation, but at least it looks as if the England fans are behaving for now. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we don't draw Germany in the second round, should we get that far.

Blisters - no problem. Trick I learnt from my Gran (bless her soul). Put a piece of thread on a fine needle, put the needle through the blister and leave the thread in. The liquid slowly oozes out (can anything ooze out fast??) and you should have no problems.

With this victory, Ecuador consolidates its hold in Group A. Ecuador was on the offensive. Costa Rica tried to formulate game plans and strategies but were unable to stick to a tried and successful formula [as done by Ecuador]. Ecuador may be on its way to making World Cup History but that would be dependent on its game against Germany.

Hello,

heading for the Klinsmann bakery may be of some interest for you - although hard to understand -, but why not go a few kilometers more to the new DAIMLER CHRYSLER museum which opened last month and definitely is worth seeing. It's just next to the Stuttgart DAIMLER STADION.
Have some more good time in Germany.

You were in Heidelberg? What route were yout aking that made you divert in the Berg?

I spent my Autumn semester on an ERASMUS year abroad placement in Heidelberg and i must say it was one of the most beautiful cities I have seen especially the view of the Neckar bridge. Which bar where you in, by the way? was it one along the great long Hauptstrasse (Main Street)? Was the town totally packed with fans coming to a standstill for the footie with big screens outside? I bet it is VERY different from what I last saw of it!

Thanks for another tedious pointless anecdote. Did I tell you about the chat I had with a traffic warden about cats after she was startled by one hiding behind the rear wheel of an MG? No? Ah yes, that's because I didn't, it's too boring a story to relay to unfortunate others. Get it?

Why not just back the proper 606 and spare us any more tedious debate, and yourselves the embarrassment?

Medecins Sans Frontiers would pop them and ensure they are totally clean.
British Red Cross recommend you leave the blister as is as it prevents infection.

I thought the campervan was disabled access anyway?

Quaetion is Fletch what have you been doing to get blisters in the first place? Have you been wearing silly shoes?
