New White Denim songs

Zane Lowe | 18:38 UK time, Tuesday, 10 February 2009

Been sat around a table today with some professional music enthusiasts hammering out one of those gnarly top 100 type lists. Has me thinking about the next round of masterpieces. I've got some time to think.

Now sat at R1 pre-show and post interview with Gary from Cribs. Apparently courgette is regarded amongst vegetarians as 'tastless'. They start a new record in April.

Listened to two new White Denim songs yesterday. One is (good) predictable and one is a (great) surprise.

If your gonna have any entry for, like, er, a classic album like Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin what about The Small Faces 'Odgens Nut Gone Flake' its more psychedelically (is that a word?) influenced than anything Kasabian could every rustle up in Leicester. Theres loads of great songs, and it features the fairytale of 'Happiness Stan' where he meets Mad Cat John the Hermit who then sings him a song about the meaning of life. And its narrated by the late, great Stanley Unwin in 'Unwinese' Like, hello?, who else has ever done anything that ambitious and daring. Pity Steve pass out on his bed with a cigarette in his mouth but he still left a rich legacy. Innit.
