Hottest Record - Placebo - 'Battle for the Sun'

Zane Lowe | 20:28 UK time, Tuesday, 17 March 2009

It's been a long time since we got a reaction like this for our H.R. Placebo fans have always been passionate and loyal and I reckon we had a planet full of them tuned into Radio 1 tonight for the first play of their new single 'Battle for the Sun'. Placebo have faced many hurdles in their career and re-emerged in 2009 standing talling than ever. This is big, bold, atmospheric music. Brian simply called it 'cinemascope and widescreen technicolour'. And judging from the interview, Brian and the band are exited about the future. We are always excited about the future of music, which is why tomorrow H.R is Empire of the Sun. Leave a comment. z

    Wow!

Their new song, "Battle for the sun" was even better than I expected! I absolutely love it! It's a fresh new Placebo who's still as wonderfull as before.

I was a bit nervous about it, since Steve left, but the new member is very good too - and, may I say, cute as well.

I'm so happy they came back with a new album, and I can't wait to hear the new whole CD.

So, all I can do is wish Brian and Placebo good luck, and I hope they'll visit Canada again pretty soon!

    Thanks again for the song!

zane, you are a wonderful man!

it may sound a bit "fantard"esque, but this is the happiest day for a lot of people in a long long time.

for me, Placebo are more than just a band, i don't know what they are, but it's more than just music, it's more than just sounds, it's a feeling, and it brings a lot of people together, that's why it's so amazing for you to mention our PFWW forum and that's why the playing of new material was so huge today...

the best and most exciting thing to happen to me in years, and i shared it with so many others on the forum as well, so thanks.

and thank you Placebo, for constantly keeping me happy, sane and for releasing amazing music! Cannot wait for the new album, Battle For The Sun is AMAZING!

    congrats!

I really like the new single. At first it was a bit repetitive but after a few listens it really grows on you and the repetition takes on a whole new meaning.

The style is completely different to that of Meds, which to be honest is a very welcome change. I really hope that the rest of the album is as good and I can't wait to hear it as I have a feeling that they won't disappoint us.

Thank you very much Zane for your warm welcome to all Placebo fans around the world!
I heard 'Battle For The Sun' live on your show (of course!) and my anticipation, the endless latency was totally worth it! This song truly gets to me. Brian's vibrating, incomparable and moving voice here is exceeding amatory and irresistible, gets straight under my skin. Pure goosebumps!
The spectacular climax at the end gives you the final spiritedness and leaves me behind totally lost in his voice and - and of course - lost in the amazing lyrics (use of metaphores, characteristical for Placebo, but this time in a more reduced/curtate manner)....about the angry and bittersweet battle with the always existing daemons of life, whether I want to become aware of them or "will pretend it didn't hurt"; so let's try to choose the sun

    Hi Zane,

thanks for putting a stop to the nerve-racking anticipation by broadcasting the new Placebo-song eventually. You have no idea just HOW insane the fanbase got about it all around the world.

I'm pretty sure with Battle for the Sun Placebo managed to win back quite a big number of fans who weren't that enthusiastic about the band anymore in the past few years.

    *thumbs up*
