Complaint

The programme included a report on the riots in France which followed the fatal shooting by police of a teenager in Nanterre.聽 A viewer complained of leftist and anti-Western bias in the item, and of the inclusion of a contribution from an activist he described as a convicted felon.聽 The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the 麻豆官网首页入口鈥檚 editorial standards of impartiality.


Outcome

The report鈥檚 focus was on the family of the dead teenager because this was the first occasion on which they had agreed to be interviewed on camera.聽 Nevertheless, it included a range of views on the events following his death, including a contribution from the leader of one of the police unions.聽 In the ECU鈥檚 judgement this was sufficient to maintain impartiality on the matters under discussion.聽 The ECU noted that the activist named by the complainant had not been convicted of any felony.
