Whether you want a career as a superstar DJ or musician, sports coach or organiser, bricklayer, mechanic or plumber or you haven't decided yet and just want to chill, a new centre has opened in Coventry that could help you.

City Skills, which is based in the city centre, is open to anyone aged between 16 and 24 and is hoping to get on the right careers path.

If you join, you will be enrolled onto the Life Skills programme, which will help you get the skills and expertise you need to get the right job - and offers leisure facilities so you can chill with your mates while you get things sorted.

Officially opened
City Skills was the brainchild of Three A's Pertemps Training Ltd after they underwent a consultation period with young people to find out exactly what they needed.

The Coventry and Warwickshire Learning and Skills Council funded the operation and it has now been officially opened by its chairman, Ursula Russell.

The centre, which is based at 48 Queens Road, features a cyber caf茅, pool table, kitchen, computer training room, a garage and workshop and an advice and guidance area.

Coventry needs skilled people

If you want to be a superstar DJ, City Skills could be the place to start
"For Coventry to sustain economic growth, it needs skilled people that in the future can become valuable members of the local workforce, able to use their skills to benefit the local community," said Ursula.

"City Skills will help to develop these young people to reach their full potential, improve their communication skills and boost their confidence, and I am sure they will have some fun along the way too."

City Skills manager, Paula Pugh, added: "We are all very excited about the difference City Skills will make to the lives of young people in Coventry, as they will have somewhere safe and secure to spend their time, with the option to learn real skills such as painting and decorating and bricklaying.

"City Skills has been created to offer young people needing motivation or re-motivation to find employment with ongoing training.

"This will be in a relaxed and friendly environment, where they will receive encouragement and support every step of the way."
