I would love Jeff Green to be my mate. His humour and slightly apologetic style are perfect for those catching -up, chewing the cud kind of evenings at the pub.
![quote start](/staticarchive/0fd93ac9bd229df17b2cf71c3432c1796ca968d7.gif) His holiday anecdotes about his disastrous canal trip and pain-stricken scuba-diving efforts were absolutely hilarious.

I had this thought after I saw his show at the Warwick Arts Centre on Friday 11 October 2002.
Jeff felt like someone I knew because he was definitely at his best when he was talking about his life, just like my mates do.
His holiday anecdotes about his disastrous canal trip and pain-stricken scuba-diving efforts were absolutely hilarious.
When he was talking like this, about events that had really happened to him, he was very original and funny. I was rocking in my chair and almost crying at some of the tales.
At times, however, some of the stories fell into the trap of the old comedians' book of subject matters. It must be excruciating trying to be original when talking about relationships, sex and your parents. These are all fast approaching the same status as mother-in-law jokes.
Fortunately, any slightly clich茅d patches were eclipsed by the brilliant wit and insight of Jeff's more original material.
When he was improvising, reacting to people and events live in the room, he was hilarious. Just as he is in similar live situations on TV (They Think It's All Over, Never Mind The Buzzcocks etc).
In fact, even Jeff seemed to think he suited that style better, as half way through the show he started heckling himself, in a very funny, improvised style.

Jo Enright
Also to thank for the night's laughs was Jeff's guest, Jo Enright. Jo won the audience over in a matter of seconds with her tales of retail work and her class-ridden impressions.
Her Brummie-centric set, occasionally awkward with the Coventry crowd, was very funny and will be a storm to watch when she guests with Jeff at his Birmingham date on 13 November. This coming home for Jo is bound to reap a quality set of Brummie banter between the stage and the crowd.
