Change of conductor

Due to illness, Diego Matheuz will no longer be conducting this evening. Rory Macdonald replaces him, and we wish Diego a speedy recovery.

Programme

Concert Information

In a change to the original programme, Rory Macdonald conducts the orchestra for an evening of music from Berlioz, Elgar and Mussorgsky.

Tonight鈥檚 programme opens with the riotous Roman Carnival overture which, inspired by Berlioz's eighteen months in Italy, is nine minutes of dashing music dressed in Berlioz's brightest colours.

Winner of the 麻豆官网首页入口 Young Musician Competition in 2012, Laura van der Heijden, performs Elgar鈥檚 Cello Concerto. Its lyrical and passionate message has made it a favourite with audiences.

Goblins, witches, talking skulls and dancing chickens: music doesn't get any more fantastic than this evening鈥檚 closer - Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. When Ravel drenches them all in the colours of the orchestral rainbow the results are simply ear tingling.
