About This Event
Light and darkness battle it out in this tempestuous programme from the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Principal Conductor Dinis Sousa. ‘Black wings are constantly beating above us,’ Brahms wrote, encouraging the listener to hear the shadow that melancholy casts over his apparently serene Symphony No. 2. The same uneasy spirit runs through Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20, which shares its stormy key with his opera Don Giovanni and his Requiem (see Prom 69). Cosmic order is established in the circling musical orbits and intersecting paths of Missy Mazzoli’s hypnotic Sinfonia, written ‘in the shape of a solar system’.
Tickets for all events at Sage Gateshead will go on sale from Saturday 22 April 2023.
