Friends with Simpson since they were both 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio 3 New Generation Artists from 2012 to 2014, superb young cellist Leonard Elschenbroich gives the premiere of this 麻豆官网首页入口 Philharmonic commission, the centrepiece of a programme that also features Strauss鈥檚 redemptive tone-poem and Shostakovich鈥檚 staggering First Symphony 鈥� completed when the composer was just 18.
