About this event

The laureate of the lute song, John Dowland is chiefly remembered for the burnished melancholy of 鈥楩low, my tears鈥�. In the last Cadogan Hall concert of the 2013 Proms, tenor Ian Bostridge, lutenist Elizabeth Kenny and the viol consort Fretwork mark the 450th anniversary of Dowland鈥檚 birth in a programme that explores his work at its saddest, most seductive, and most light-hearted. An hour of lachrimaes, love songs and dances amid the painters (Sir John Souch), courtiers (Henry Noel) and soldiers (Captain Digorie Piper) of Elizabethan England.
