This evening:
Matthew Barley returns as soloist in Haydn鈥檚 sunny Cello Concerto, alongside a rare opportunity to experience the strange sound-worlds conjured up by three works from the 20th century European avant garde: Hungarian Gy枚rgy Ligeti鈥檚 Ramifications (1968); Italian Salvatore Sciarrrino鈥檚 Autorittrato Nella Notte (鈥楽elf portrait in the Night鈥, 1982) and local lad Sir Harrison Birtwistle鈥檚 Carmen Arcadiae Mechanicae Perpetuum (鈥榩erpetual song of mechanical paradise鈥, 1977).
At the interval, join our host Elizabeth Alker (麻豆官网首页入口 Radio 6 Music and Radio 3) for an interval discussion, before some of the repertoire will be repeated - inviting you to listen again with fresh ears.
