The World of the Drunken Master DVD (1979)

Fans of Jackie Chan's "Drunken Master" may well get a kick out of this amusing effort, which was choreographed by Yuen Cheung Yan, the man responsible for the Kung Fu in "Charlie's Angels". Just don't expect to be bowled over by the DVD.

This is not the type of film where you can expect particularly good picture quality. However, in comparison to other discs from The Kung Fu Connection label like "Born Invincible" and "Shaolin vs Lama", this disc is a little disappointing. The image is quite bleary and often low in detail. That said, there's easily worse out there, and it remains watchable.

The 2.0 mono sound mix is fine and reasonably free of distortion.

What almost makes this disc worth buying is the four-minute trailer that forms the one special feature. Old Kung Fu movies often have hilarious trailers, but this one is a real scream. Marvel at the flying rubber bats as it promises "Kung Fu of Bat Style" in a film that's apparently "A costy [sic] grand production".
