In March 1943, Ashford suffered the worst bombing of any town in Kent. Many roads were hit by bombs and the primary school in Beaver Road was entirely flattened. Fortunately, all the children had got to the shelters.

Does anyone remember this incident?

Posted on: 10 May 2005 by RaymondDavis

Hello
I was actually still in the boys side of the school when the bombs fell and demolished the girls side.I used to live in Ashford but soon after the bombing my father's job took him to Horsham in Sussex. He my father had a narrow escape as he worked for Carter Paterson and his yard was by the pub by the Tank.He was standing in the outside gents toilet when the bomb hit the side of the pub bounced on the ground under a tin roof through the wall bounced on the shelter in the grounds behind and exploded in the bakery.I was 11 at the time and lived in Prospect Place ,Forge Lane, which is now no longer a through road.
