They were all shot down
On a train journey I meet a young man who apparently took great interest in my teenage leftwing political views, so I talked and talked in German about the Russian revolution and fights for freedom all over the world and so on. I really wanted to put weight behind my words so I stated that some poor revolutionaries were shot down at some point of some conflict. Unfortunately I said Und sie wurden einfach beschissen which was somewhat misleading, as the young man was polite enough to tell me. I should in fact have said Und sie wurden einfach erschossen, they've got shot. I unfortunately said, that they've got 'betrayed' (the literal translation is 'they were shat on'). Oh dear!
