Good is good is good

I had been in Mexico City for a few short months, fifteen years ago, and had met a guy I liked, who took me home to meet his brothers. There was a small party going on the first night, and as I sat there, all my three years of studying Spanish washed away: I understood absolutely nothing! The next day, I asked my friend about one of the phrases I had heard frequently the night before. This is pretty much how our conversation went: What does poca madre mean? I asked. Qué chido he answered. So what does qué chido mean? It means de pelos! And what does de pelos mean? It means poca madre! We had gone full circle and I was still in the dark. Some time later I discovered that poca madre, chido and de pelos all meant 'good' in some circles in Mexico City, and I still wonder why he didn't just tell me it meant bueno! This person is still my friend, fifteen years later, and a professional, but he still speaks the same way. And now I do too.

Hi! I am from Mexico City, English teacher and now studying German in Magdeburg. That's right, some people in Mexico City talk in a very interesting way, because we can have more than 10 words just to say bueno (good). That's way I love my language!!!! Suerte en sus viajes.
