Your Story: Powercuts

On occasions the power was cut off while I was at work as a clerical assistant at Smiths ltd furniture shop. So we had to ask the customers to leave the shop so we could lock up and go home early.

To make matters worse I lived in an upstairs flat with an outside toilet and no hot water and no bath. Having to go to our parents for a bath or get the tin bath infront of the electric fire after heating the water in a tin boiler.

In the winter, the cold water tap used to freeze. I used to have to shovel snow and then put it in the tin boiler just to have water.
