Later on in the year, I became a postal and telegraph officer in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. As a postman driver, I worked on a 24 hour shift system but behind the counter, it was normal office hours. I enjoyed all my posts with the GPO. I travlled by bus and tram in Edinburgh. Delivering mail in some of the smelliest slums in Edinburgh was quite an education.
