Audio Episode 1 - Norma
Norma grew up not understanding why the man she thought was her father did not love her as much as her sister. When she was 40 he mother confessed that she had met a G.I. called Lawrence McCloud while her husband was away. Relieved and delighted, Norma wrote to every Lawrence McCloud in the U.S and finally found her father in California. In spite of the fact that he had no idea that he had a child in England he was very pleased.
Audio Episode 2 - John
John was handed over to his grandmother at the age of three and a half. His mother did not want to take him into her new marriage. He grew up knowing that he had a G.I. family with an unusual name. This simplified the search, except that when the G.I. was found he went into denial.
Audio Episode 3 - Bill
Bill had been given up to a Children's Home. He had little knowledge of his background until an opportunity arose to look at his records. They revealed his father's last name was Brown. That could have led to a lengthy, almost impossible search. Fortunately, this G.I had been a bugler in the last Negro regiment to leave Tavistock, Devon. Sadly his father was dead but the family have filled him in on his history which includes American Indian blood.
Audio Episode 4 - Sylvia
Sylvia was the child of a married lady whose British husband had been away at war. She was given up for adoption. When Sylvia finally saw her papers they revealed her G.I. father's name. When she discovered he was dead, she was determined to find her family. Her two American siblings somewhat shocked, passed her letter to their father's best friend. With his help the three sisters shared an emotional visit to their father's grave.
Audio Episode 5 - Ann
Ann remembers arguements between her mother and the man she thought was her father about not bringing up another man's child. She felt it was her right to know who was really her father. She finds the family she always knew existed.
