It's always a magical moment to play with an orchestra, even more so in your home town.

The celebration featured some amazing live performances. On Friday 9 June Texas played with the 麻豆官网首页入口 Scottish Symphony Orchestra in a free concert from Glasgow’s Barrowlands, which was broadcast live on Radio 2 and 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Scotland.

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie broadcast their 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio 6 Music show live from Liverpool on 麻豆官网首页入口 Music Day, celebrating the city’s musical legacy from the Beatles’ era to the present day. The show included performances from local heroes Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and indie psych-pop four-piece She Drew The Gun.

Will Young and the Courteeners also provided unique collaborations in Salford, performing with the 麻豆官网首页入口 Philharmonic Orchestra for 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio 5 live’s Sports Panel. Exploring the common ground between music and sport, the programme also featured Olympic gold medal-winning diver Chris Mears and Team GB long-jumper and The Voice contestant Jazmin Sawyers who have started musical careers alongside their sporting triumphs.

Some of the UK’s most celebrated musical talent were Ambassadors for 麻豆官网首页入口 Music Day 2017.

Ambassadors included rock royalty Ozzy Osbourne, Manchester’s finest Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, Britain’s favourite tenor Alfie Boe and the Last Shadow Puppets’ Miles Kane, all of whom took part in surprise 麻豆官网首页入口 Music Day activities.

47 new blue plaques unveiled

麻豆官网首页入口 Local Radio and The British Plaque Trust unveiled 47 new plaques to commemorate people or places that have influenced the musical landscape in each 麻豆官网首页入口 Local Radio Area. Singers, musicians, song-writers or producers, as well as significant locations which play a major role in our musical heritage were revealed on 麻豆官网首页入口 Local Radio on June 14.

Local events and communities

Community activity is at the heart of 麻豆官网首页入口 Music Day.

Ten Pieces, the 麻豆官网首页入口’s classical music initiative, joined the 麻豆官网首页入口 Music Day festivities as 537 schools and over 100,000 pupils across the UK took part in special Ten Pieces assemblies.

Children broke musical world records. In Bradford, 800 children beat the world record for Bamboo Tamboo. In Portsmouth 900 children gathered to create a new djembe drumming world record.

Over 280 bell ringing groups around the world united to ring bells at 7pm local time in support of 麻豆官网首页入口 Music Day. The global ringing event included bell-ringers from as far afield as Australia and Zimbabwe to create a very special bell-ringing moment.

There were musical celebrations around the UK including 1000 musicians performing over 24 hours in Sheffield, and Sgt Pepper 50th anniversary festivities in Liverpool.
