Thanks for joining us for this year's show, which was a bumpy ride for some, not least the UK's James Newman with nul points.

Italy will host the contest next year, and organisers will be hoping they can return to a full-capacity arena, full of fans ready to cheer on the finalists.

The has a short profile of the winning band, and says they are vocalist Damiano, bassist Victoria, guitarist Thomas and Ethan on drums.

It says they took their band name from the Danish word for moonlight, as a tribute to their bassist Victoria’s home country.

Although they have known each other since middle school, they didn't form the band until 2015. They cite their musical influences as rock, rap, reggae, funk and pop.

The group is already well established in Italy, releasing two singles and their first chart-topping studio album Il ballo della vita in 2018.

Two years ago they sold out 66 gigs and with 140,000 tickets for shows in Italy and across Europe.

The Eurovision website's page also has a translation of the winning song's lyrics, which has a chorus:

I'm out of my mind, but different from them/ And you are out of your mind, but different from them/ We are out of our minds, but different from them.

Italy were the favourites for a reason.

They brought swagger, confidence and star quality to the Eurovision stage.

As they said to me in the lead-up, they didn’t try to fit into a Eurovision box and just played on stage as if it was just another gig.

They struck the perfect combination: a powerhouse song with perfect staging. The song – Zitti e buoni – builds and builds to a pyrotechnic crescendo and they got a landslide result from the public vote. Job done.

Journalist Kat Brown spoke for many in her :

“A year ago, this venue was a hospital. That is amazing to think. What an incredibly job the Netherlands have done. No wonder Graham’s getting weepy, we all are. For a few wonderful, sparkly hours we’ve been taken out of ourselves.

The Ahoy Arena was turned into a Covid-19 hospital at the start of the pandemic.

Italy's MÃ¥neskin took to the stage to accept their award, and said: "We just want to say to the whole of Europe, to the whole world - rock and roll never dies!"

Graham Norton reacted by saying: "I'm trying to put a positive spin on it but I feel so sorry for James. A lot of disappointed people in that arena tonight, but thrilled to be a part of Eurovision."

Destiny only gets 47 points from the public!

It leaps in front with a huge 524 points.

But will it be enough?

It's all change at the top with only eight countries left to give their votes.

They're followed by Switzerland and France...

They all also get nul points from the public but they had a few points from the jury.

The public vote is in and they are added to the professional jury votes. The UK got nul points from both the jury and the public. James is being hugged by his crew. And he's still smiling. It's another last place for the UK, it's the fifth time it's happened. And only the second time we've scored nul points. Jemini also got zilch in 2003.

For those of you who can't remember how the UK has fared previously, has all the answers. It's a mixed bag.

It says that to date, the UK has won the contest five times, and has finished second a record 15 times.

But in 2019 the UK came last with Michael Rice, and SuRie came 24th in 2018.

Let's see what happens with the public vote.

Switzerland are still back in the lead, followed by France and Italy. The UK is the only entry yet to score.

Sarah sent us a picture of a very young Eurovision fan in Bristol. Their favourite entrant was Lithuania.

We've still got the public vote to come but no points for James Newman from the juries so far. Graham says: "It's not fair... James's song isn't the worst in the competition by a long shot."

His fans are not impressed with the voting so far... but as Graham Norton just said, everything could change with the public vote.
