People with a disability in Eastbourne are calling for double yellow lines to stop people parking on the seafront.

Dropped kerbs were installed near homes on Sovereign Harbour after a campaign by wheelchair users.

But they say the yellow lines need extending to stop parked cars obstructing their view of oncoming vehicles.

Nine people arrested over an attack in Brighton, which left a man in hospital, have been released on bail.

The 37-year-old victim, from Portslade, was repeatedly kicked and punched in Old Steine, near St James's Street, at 02:43 BST on 20 August.

Nine people were arrested in Black Lion Street shortly after the assault.

Seven men aged between 18 and 23 and from London, a 19-year-old man from London and a 22-year-old woman from Hove have been released pending further inquiries.

A family from Brighton is appealing for help in finding a woman who went missing last Friday.

Tiina Proffitt was last seen in shops in the city but hasn't been sighted since.

Her family is concerned because she's been unwell lately and had become depressed.

At the weekend police and Sussex Search and Rescue volunteers conducted searches of the local area.

Nearly 450 people have signed a petition calling the sign at Brighton station "a blot on our city".

Police investigating a spate of thefts of cash machines in Surrey said they are liaising with other forces in a bid to identify organised crime gangs suspected of being responsible.

Six cash machines have been stolen across the county since the start of August.

A Surrey Police spokesman said the force was using CCTV, forensics and witness evidence in an effort to find those responsible.

The spokesman said: “We are also liaising with other forces to identify organised crime groups which may be responsible for carrying out these offences.

"We will also take robust action to tackle these offenders whenever possible.”

Gardeners in Tunbridge Wells could be expected to pay an extra £22 for their brown bins from March next year.

Councillors are set to discuss a proposed increase in yearly garden waste fees from £30 to £52 tomorrow.

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council predict 14,700 residents will opt-in for the fortnightly collection, creating a revenue of £764,400 per year.

Those who opt for the service will receive a new 240 litre bin or a hessian sack, depending on the storage space available.

This move comes as the council are joining forces with Tonbridge and Malling borough council to save money on collecting rubbish.

A council report published ahead of the meeting said: "The introduction of an opt-in garden waste collection service frees up resources to assist in the delivery of the improved recycling and separate food waste collection elements of the service.

"An annual charge for the collection of garden waste is permitted by law, applies the principle of the user pays rather than all council tax payers, and provides a new source of income.

"Other forms of household waste, such as glass, paper and residual waste are not designated as chargeable.

"The majority of councils now charge for the collection of garden waste as part of recycling and waste service."

If approved the new contract will start on 1 March, 2019.

A Medway pub which "became a nightclub" at weekends has agreed to remove its dancefloor after an incident which saw a man punched unconscious and a woman struck by a bottle of prosecco.

Greene King, which operates Cricketers in Rainham High Street, brought forward proposed changes to the licence following a series of incidents which culminated in last month's melee.

These include ditching the makeshift dancefloor, having four door staff when the pub is open post-11pm, and hosting only 10 pre-booked events - such as festive and charity evenings - every year.

Alcohol will still be served until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, with the pub closing at 1.30am - something which the chain said was crucial for the business to be viable in the future.

A crowdfunding campaign to protect castles from the threat of invasive plants and the effects of severe weather and pollution has been launched by English Heritage.

The charity has in its care, including Camber, Deal, Dover, Pevensey and Rochester in the South East.

The appeal, which is part of its #LoveCastles summer season, hopes to raise £50,000 from the public to help it protect the landmarks for future generations.

Urgent conservation work includes removing extensive ivy and other plants, shrubs and even trees whose roots have grown into the castle walls.

Eroded stones may also need to be replaced to strengthen weakened walls.
