Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag after the club's poor start to the season.

The Red Devils, who are currently 14th in the Premier League, lost 2-1 to West Ham on Sunday.

"We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future," a club statement read.

Former United player, and current assistant manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, will take charge of the team as interim head coach until they find a permanent replacement.

Man United have only won three of their nine league games this season. They have also drawn all three of their Europa League matches - leaving them 21st of 36 teams in that competition.

Erik ten Hag joined the Reds from Dutch club Ajax in 2022 and helped the club win the Carabao Cup a year later.

He also led them to a third-place finish in his first season in charge, and in May 2024, he managed to bring in more silverware with an impressive FA Cup final win against rivals Manchester City.

But despite the cup trophies, league results have been inconsistent and fans have been calling for change.

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Sport's chief football news reporter Simon Stone said Ten Hag should have been able to deliver better results with the money he was able to spend at Old Trafford over the years he has been in charge.

"They have spent a huge amount of money - hundreds of millions of pounds on players. Many of them Ten Hag has either managed previously or have come on his recommendation, and many of them have just not been good enough."
