Brian Nesbitt-Clarke

My name is Brian Nesbitt-Clarke and I live in Holywood. I recently took early retirement and to fill the space an OU course in Creative Writing which I thoroughly recommend to everybody. I'd like to share some of the poetry that came from the course and some poetry that came from my heart.

Douglas by Brian Nesbitt-Clarke
My Brother, Douglas, died last year,
An ordinary death.
One day he was alive and well,
The next day, we, bereft.

He had a tumour in his brain,
Increasingly malign.
Growing, spreading, swelling, squeezing,
Life in steep decline.

We never knew what pain he had
We never knew his fear,
What dread he had of the unknown.
The time of death drew near.

听Douglas died a peaceful death,
Asleep and in his bed.
He left his love of life to us
When all he was, had fled

His jogging days are over now
His golfing clubs lie still.
The Links are closed, The Bar is too,
The last round played,
Subscription paid.
