Carolann North

About to embark on an english degree at University of Ulster, Carolann has been inspired by poetry from a young age. Now at age 21, she hopes to follow in the footsteps of her inspirations; Blake, Yeats and Frost.

Addiction by Carolann North

And so it is done;

My naked body lies upon the hardwood floor,

Praying for the rug you swore you'd get me.

A cigarette is lit in the darkness

A little red light in a blackened room

As stagnant smoke fills the air.

And so I lie naked, open and cold,

Your sweat still glistening on my skin,

Your breath fresh upon my neck.

Even now I crave your touch,

Your approval, some sign of affection,

Though I know it is a hopeless cause.

The love that plainly reflects in my eyes,

Is met with your empty, uncaring stare,

And yet I cannot tear myself from you.

鈥淚t's getting late鈥 you say,

As if I could not predict those words,

Or the look on your face as you run away.

And next time you call I'll do it again,

You're my obsession, my drug, my Mary Jane.

Forever addicted to your cold embrace,

Your empty sex and your heartless face.
