Easter at Ballintoy by David Smylie

The currents are strong around Sheep Island
And my heart is heavy
The sun shines and makes diamonds of the spray
As it cascades ahead of the breaking waves
Salt on my lips
The taste of
Spring tears in bloom
A new season of melancholy
So many memories ride on the wind
I sit among the white rocks
The pilgrim who returned
To a cornucopia of regret
The Fulmars ever watchful
Hover effortlessly with out intent
Or
Find shelter all along the dark basalt headlands
Between
Benbane and Kenbane
While I
A transient creature who
Seeks solace
Realizes it鈥檚 not yet his time.
