In the Shadow of Blackmountain by Matt Garrett

(A lesson for the Hirundine)

Hay rattle knit among lady鈥檚 bedstraw
I danced in the meadow I gave you my all.
Birdseye speedwell, taste the self heal
This long season鈥檚 meadow cast the shadow of me.
At the brae I glanced at time elapsed,
What went before, what鈥檚 been and passed.
I weaved your nest and filled it full;
At times the rain would not touch you.
Balance rhyme with reason, but now erosion in my soul,
Grinds the life from hardened heart,
This quarried empty hole.
Sand Martin nest in quarry dust
Crumbled, caved in, is my flight unjust?
Remember, remember
The beauty it was, the monument to true
And here a rough cut remnant erodes
What gain and who more fool.
