Asian Network loves Bollywood in June

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Asian Network immerses itself in the Indian Film industry for the whole month of June, starting a celebration of the biggest film industry on the planet and bringing listeners the stories and music from the world's most exciting film genre.

Asian Network will be the home for all the star interviews, news and gossip from the International Indian Film Academy weekend and awards (IIFAs), held in Thailand from 6 to 8 June.

Coverage of the IIFAs will kick off with Breakfast With Jas Rao (6-9am) on Friday, when Love Bollywood's Raj and Pablo will be reporting live from Bangkok.

Love Bollywood itself will be coming live from the stars' hotel on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June (9am-noon) and all the results and gossip from the Awards ceremony will be broadcast on Monday in Breakfast With Jas Rao.

Adil Ray and Gagan Grewal will present their shows from the famous Star City, one of the UK's key Bollywood venues in Birmingham. They will be talking to cinemagoers and playing Bollyokey – with famous participants singing along to classic Bollywood tracks.

During the week, from Breakfast With Jas Rao through the daytime programmes and on to the specialist music programmes like Friction and DJ Kayper, there will be a Bollywood theme – with the music and the huge personalities reflected in the sound of the station.

The fun starts on Monday 2 June, when Love Bollywood presenters Raj and Pablo ask whether a British Asian could be the next Shahrukh Khan in the Asian Network Report at 7.30pm.

Actor Upen Patel reflects on his journey from Wembley to Mumbai and what it was like to star in the 2007 film Namastey London. It's not been an easy ride, he explains, as prejudices and his Hindi have held him back.

Raj and Pablo also hear from Geeta Basra from Portsmouth, who talks about being one of Bollywood's sexiest girls and her ambition to be a female lead.

With a new Bollywood acting school opening later this year in Ealing, London, Asian Network Report asks whether the path will become a little easier for ordinary, working-class British Asians who dream of Bollywood – or whether model looks, family connections and pots of money are the only way in.
