Harper's Island: episodes one and two

Harper's Island

Episode one: Whap – written By Jeffrey Bell

Harper's Island is a 13-episode murder mystery about a group of family and friends who travel to a secluded island for a destination wedding. They've come to laugh... to love... and, though they don't know it... to die.

As the wedding festivities begin, friendships are tested and secrets exposed as a murderer claims victims, one by one, transforming the wedding week of fun and celebration into a terrifying struggle for survival.

Henry, the boy next door, is marrying the woman of his dreams, Trish Wellington, a beautiful and wealthy heiress. But, as the wedding week begins, people start dying. Every episode, at least one person is killed. Wedding guests and island locals...every person is a suspect. No one is safe. No one can be trusted.

By the end of the 13 episodes, all questions will be answered, the killer will be revealed and only a few will survive.

In the first episode, Abby Mills returns to Harper's Island for the wedding celebration of her best friend, Henry Dunn, and his fiancee, Trish Wellington. Abby hasn't been home in seven years, since her mother and five others were murdered by John Wakefield, on Harper's Island.

Episode two: Crackle

While out for a run in the woods, Abby is startled by Jimmy and Shane deer-hunting. When Jimmy and Shane return to the truck, they discover a deer carcass on the hood, with the word "psycho" written in blood on the windshield. Shane suspects JD is the culprit and vows retaliation. While out on a stroll, the Reverend Fain gets snared in a rope trap and is decapitated by an unseen figure.

Trish meets Hunter again and states her intention of marrying Henry. Trish and Henry have organised a "get to know you, get to know the island" scavenger hunt. It begins at the Candlewick with the wedding party divided into groups. While her team is at The Cannery, Abby gets reacquainted with Kelly, another local whose mother was also murdered by John Wakefield. Kelly confesses she envies Abby: able to leave the island to start a new life. Kelly explains that she's still haunted by John Wakefield and still sees him. Abby tries to assure her that Wakefield is dead, her father, the Sheriff, killed him. Kelly wants to start over and asks Abby if she can live with her in LA At first, Abby is not receptive to the idea but later she goes to Kelly's house and invites her to stay with her in California. As Abby delivers the news to Kelly, she sees that JD is there as well. Kelly shares her good news with JD and they make love to celebrate.

Meanwhile Cal, in a drunken effort to thwart Sully's advances on Chloe, ventures out alone from The Cannery through the woods to find their team, and he too is caught in a rope trap. Sully stumbles upon him later, steals Cal's map, and says he return with more help.

In an effort to keep the peace between Shane and JD, Henry heads down to the dock and extends an invitation to both Jimmy and Shane to the beach party later that evening. However, the truce is short lived when Henry arrives back at his room at the Candlewick and discovers a deer's head in the bathtub. That evening at the beach party, when Chloe expresses her concern that Cal is still missing, Sully leads them to his whereabouts. They find him, still dangling upside down, seemingly lifeless, but merely unconscious. Nikki arrives at Kelly's house to pick her up for the beach party but finds her hanging from the rafters, dead.

Shane arrives to the party and is punched out by Henry for his "deer in the bathtub" prank. During their altercation, Lucy's dog Gigi scampers off into the woods. Lucy runs after her, and falls into a pit. Her screams for help are drowned out as the killer strikes a match using a Candlewick matchbox and sets her on fire.
