Puzzle No. 710– Friday 3 April 2020

Three students: Himari, Luca and Sarah each buy an identical bottle of hand sanitiser. After some time, Himari has 30% left, Luca has half of her bottle unused and Sarah has 26 millilitres remaining. Together, the total remaining volume would fill one bottle, exactly. What is the volume of one bottle of hand sanitiser?

Today’s #PuzzleForToday has been set by Iqra Adil, a Year 7 student at Little Ilford School. Iqra wrote the puzzle by winning school maths teacher Bobby Seagull's Little Ilford maths puzzle competition.

One bottle = 130 ml

½=50%

30%+50%=80%. 100%-80%=20%

26ml=20%. Therefore a full bottle at 100% = 130ml.
