Today Puzzle #717

Puzzle No. 717– Tuesday 14 April 2020

Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of the popular but slightly erroneous quote "Houston, we have a problem". The distance from the Moon to the Earth is approximately 380,000 km. A spacecraft can travel at an average of 5,000 km an hour. If they left the Earth at 7am on Easter Monday, what day and time will they reach the Moon, assuming they have no problems?

Today’s #PuzzleForToday has been set by Bobby Seagull, school maths teacher, author and Cambridge University Doctorate student.

Time = distance / speed = 380,000 / 5,000 = 76 hours

76 hours = 3 days + 4 hours

So it will reach the Moon at Thursday 11am
