A bar of chocolate contains three rows of eight squares. How many breaks are needed to separate the bar into 24 squares of chocolate?

The number of pieces of chocolate increases by one with each break. Starting with the single 3 x8 piece of chocolate we see that 23 breaks are needed to finish with the 24 squares of chocolate.
