Meet the animals

The penguins

The main penguins are played by two Humboldt penguins called Charlie and Ferrari. The pair are part of a breeding group of 10 penguins kept at Heythrop Zoological Gardens in a purpose built enclosure. They are both people-friendly and enjoy the company of humans.

The baby penguin is played by Mojo, who hatched through filming on 29th April 2014, under first time parents Fluffy and Titus. Mojo is now in a nursery pen at Heythrop Zoo. 85 days after hatching, Mojo successfully fledged, and is currently being reintroduced to the rest of the penguin colony living at the zoo.

Sydney the camel

Sydney is played by Darhan who comes from the domestic form of Bactrian camel, a type of camel that has served as a pack animal since ancient times. He is an experienced film animal and enjoyed the extra attention given to him on set! Darhan is also trained to be ridden.

Darhan currently lives at Heythrop Zoo in a large field with his female mate, Millie. Being the star that he is, Darhan also has his own camel house!

Mortimer the monkey

Mortimer is played by two black-capped squirrel monkeys called Mitch and Malcolm, who are virtually identical in looks! During filming, Mitch generally took centre stage because he was good at staying still in shot. Malcolm, being the far more energetic of the two, acted more like his stunt double. Malcolm performed most of the more complicated behaviours.

Mitch and Malcolm currently live in a specially constructed monkey house, and outside enclosure at Heythrop Zoo.

The bears: Adam and Eve

The parts of Adam and Eve are played by Dennis, the Asian black bear. Dennis was born at a British zoo and joined his current home as a small cub in 1985. He had been abandoned by his mother, so had to be hand-raised.

He lives at Heythrop Zoo in a large glass-fornted enclosure with his own personal swimming pool!
