The school summer holidays are coming to an end and maths teachers Mr Seagull and Ms Okereke are getting ready for the new academic year. They both buy some stationery. Mr Seagull buys 3 packets of pens and 2 geometry sets for £12 and Ms Okereke buys 2 packets of pens and 2 geometry sets for £10. How much is one geometry set?
Today’s #PuzzleForToday has been set by Bobby Seagull and fellow maths teacher Susan Okereke, who are both co-hosts of the Maths Appeal podcast.

One method to solve is using simultaneous equations . Let P = pen and G = geometry set.
3P + 2G = 12
2P + 2G = 10
P = 2
6 + 2G = 12
G = 3
So geometry set is £3.
