As concerns about Ruth's mental health escalate, Gina is faced with the most difficult decision of her life. Will she do the right thing?

It's crunch time for Ruth and Andy when Andy's boss calls telling him he needs to fly out to Dubai today to start his new job - a job that Andy still hasn't told Ruth he has taken. He tries to bring it up with her but, as always, Eilidh takes priority. Andy goes to Gina for advice but ends up getting short shrift. Gina tells him to stop being so cowardly and tell Ruth the truth. Andy apologises to Ruth for not being open with her, but she gets even angrier when he reveals he's still taking the job. Ruth tells him that if he does, their marriage is over. With that, Andy leaves, with Ruth chasing after him in vain.

When Gina then visits Ruth she finds her in a panic. Eilidh has suddenly taken very ill, Ruth insists Gina phones an ambulance. Liz raises her concern again with the Rossis - she thinks that Ruth may be harming Eilidh intentionally. Whenever Andy leaves, Eilidh gets ill and he has to come running back. Her theory is roundly dismissed by the family but when Liz and Jo head back to Shieldinch to get a bag for Ruth, Jo confides that she sees some sense in Liz's idea.

Meanwhile, the police visit Michael, investigating the break-in at the surgery. They tell him that the prescription pad is solely being used for Cortodol. Michael deliberately neglects to tell them that he recently prescribed that drug to Leo. The officers then turn up at Ruth's, after they have gone, Liz wonders whether the break-in could be at all related to Eilidh's health - is Ruth drugging her own child? Liz and Jo talk to Michael about the possibility that Ruth is responsible for Eilidh's sickness. Michael is reluctant to agree with them but does concede that Cortodol could bring about the symptoms that Eilidh is experiencing. He offers to organise a psychiatric assessment for Ruth.

The police then visit an emotional Ruth at hospital. Not only is she aghast at being a suspect, she then overhears her family discussing the possibility that she is harming Eilidh. She goes to Eilidh's room and takes her away - frightened that she is going to lose her child. Ruth convinces Scott to give her a lift to the airport but he is clearly worried about her state of mind. Ruth waits by the riverside for Scott, but when he turns up he has brought her entire family in an attempt to stop her leaving. Ruth is so afraid that she will lose Eilidh that she flees, but in her panic she doesn't realise she is heading towards the river. They eventually stop her and persuade her to come home. Gina goes to Michael and, armed with the news of Ruth's erratic behaviour, he offers to arrange for Ruth to be sectioned. Afterwards, he gets a call from the hospital - Eilidh's blood tests showed no sign of any Cortodol abuse. Passing Leo in the street, Leo's awkward questions trigger a realisation in Michael, and after a brief tussle, Michael produces the prescription pad from Leo's pocket. He tells Leo that he has put him in a terrible position - Ruth is being sectioned partially because she is suspected of Leo's crime. Despite his new information, Michael still goes ahead with the sectioning. Ruth is taken away in an awful moment for her and her family.

Scarlett is getting used to her lack of hair and headscarf and also Madonna's reaction to it. She needs something to focus on and so throws herself into organising the charity fundraiser. Jimmy is proud that she is not letting cancer stop her get up and go.

Bob continues to be frustrated by the new living arrangements. Robbie is lazy, untidy and happy to leave strangers in the flat while they are all out. Bob calls a flat meeting but is angered further when Deek doesn't exactly take his side. However, a chat with Stella then inspires Bob to take matters into his own hands. Bob goes back to the flat and hides Deek's mp3 player, hoping to blame it on Robbie's one night stand. Soon enough, Deek is looking for the missing item, but, wise to Bob's antics, Robbie suggests calling the police. Bob is forced to fess up and Robbie takes advantage by making Bob buy him drinks all night at the Ship.
