Norman McLaren: Boogie Doodler
Documentary telling the story of Scottish film-making pioneer Norman McLaren, whose work has been an influence on artists such as Michel Gondry and Bjork.
Born in Stirling in 1914, Norman McLaren was a film-making pioneer. He first began experimenting with animations at the Glasgow School of Art before joining John Grierson at the GPO Film Unit and going on to establish the ground-breaking Animation Unit at the National Film Board of Canada.
Heralding the centenary of his birth, this film charts his career and influence on contemporary artists from Michel Gondry to Bjork. Featuring contributions from Gondry along with family members and collaborators at the NFB, Boogie Doodler celebrates the innovation, creativity and playfulness of this remarkable Scotsman.
