Episode 11
Famous faces recreate their childhood holidays. Len Goodman takes presenter and journalist Matt Allwright back to the towns of Teignmouth and Shaldon in Devon.
In this episode's journey through time, Len Goodman takes presenter and journalist Matt Allwright back to the towns of Teignmouth and Shaldon in Devon to reminisce about his seaside holiday from 1977, when he was seven years old.
Len surprises Matt by picking him up in a vintage Fiat 132 just like the one he travelled in back in '77. The journey from Berkshire to the seaside town of Shaldon always started in the wee hours when his dad would put a sleepy Matt (still in his pyjamas) in the car so they would arrive in Devon for breakfast! The journey was filled with fun, playing I Spy and also 'who can see the sea first' - something Len and he recreate in the Fiat.
One of Matt's most vivid memories is mackerel fishing on the ocean wave, so Len and he muster the courage to don the life jackets and grab the tackle and head out in a boat. But will they manage to catch their supper?
Matt and Len also take a trip to Babbacombe Model Village in Torquay - something that Matt and his family did every year. The child in Len leaps to the fore as they wander around this world in minute detail, including a burning house and 'Wombley Stadium'. They also play the penny slots, check out the ladybird ride on the pier and tuck into a sugar-loaded afternoon tea.
Along with the long-forgotten memories, we also get some real insights into Matt's career as a consumer journalist, and we delve into what made this holiday so memorable for the seven-year-old Matt Allwright.
