This year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I. John Wilson joins in the commemorations, looking at the involvement of deaf people in the Great War.

With the help of deaf historian Norma McGilp, John speaks to Fred Cuddeford about his memories of the Great War; he tracks down those deaf people who managed to enlist in the army; he learns how Francis Maginn was almost arrested for being a traitor; and he learns how sign language saved the lives of many innocent people in the village of Vermelles.
