When the Games Came to Glasgow
A celebration of Glasgow and the residents, who came together to deliver an unforgettable Commonwealth Games, capturing moments from the perspectives of those who made it happen.
This film is a unique behind the scenes celebration of Glasgow and Glaswegians coming together to make an unforgettable Commonwealth Games. It encapsulates the greatest moments of the Games through the eyes of the people who helped make it happen, such as the city cleaners who take classes at charm school in a bid to improve the city's welcome. We follow student Ian Henderson trying to get his film into the opening ceremony, boxer Joe Ham, a local boy from the Gorbals, who has his sights set firmly on a medal, the profits and losses of Glickman's sweet shop, Chicco and Ali from the Alishan restaurant playing lawn bowls for Pakistan, Sikh's at Glasgow gurdwara hosting a party for their sporting heroes, Team India, and the hairdressers in the athlete's village providing free body art to the Barbados Rugby Seven. Their personal stories and the Games' historic moments give us a memorable insight into Glasgow and the 20th Commonwealth Games.
