Holocaust Memorial Day

David Dimbleby introduces coverage of a unique commemoration using music, poetry and personal testimony to mark 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp.

Seventy years after the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp, more than 200 survivors attend a unique commemoration to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Taking part are Sir John Hurt, Michael Palin, Keeley Hawes and Christopher Eccleston. Among those providing the music is cellist Simon Wallfisch, grandson of Anita Lasker-Wallfisch who played in the camp orchestra at Auschwitz. Anita will be in the audience to watch her grandson play.

Through music, poetry and powerful personal testimony, all those who were persecuted and murdered by the Nazis and those who have died in later genocides will be remembered.

Presented by David Dimbleby.
