Gateside: The village my grandfather built in the 1970s

John Lynn gave Anne Marie a tour of the home place his grandfather left in the townland of Gateside just outside Coleraine. His grandfather, known as JK Lynn excavated and found a small hamlet which had been there since the time of the Irish famine. He was known as a dairy farmer and the kind of man who could turn his hand to anything. His grandson,听John听Lynn is proud of the legacy his grandfather has left.听

Every year thousands of pale-bellied brent geese fly nearly 3000 miles in a death-defying journey from the summer breeding grounds in Canada to Iceland where they rest and feed before heading to Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland. Anne Marie met Dot Bleakley who is a huge fan.听Some have arrived already and a good place to watch them, is the viewing platform at the flood gates just outside Newtownards on the Portaferry Road.
