Dougie begins a big journey through the Small Isles off the South west coast of Skye. His trip takes him first to Rum where archaeologists can trace human settlement back more than eight thousand years. He visits Harris where historian Sylvia Beaton explains the history of the township.

Sarah visits the famous Lairg sheep sales in the company of Sutherland farmer, Joyce Campbell. Earlier in the year Sarah visited Joyce’s farm to help out at lambing time. Now Joyce is selling some of her older ewes and some good looking tups.

Euan is on the RSPB’s Mersehead reserve south of Dumfries to see the arrival of Geese for the winter. The RSPB is trying to raise funds to buy more land to expand the reserve to accommodate the growing number of visitors.

Dougie is on Loch Fyne to hear about a research project that involves growing arrange of shellfish close to Salmon cages. The aim is to improve the water environment as well as providing another income stream for the Salmon farmers.
