Aly Bain's America
Alex Norton talks to Shetland fiddler Aly Bain, now in his 70th year, about his love for American folk and roots music.
Celebrating his 70th year, Shetland fiddling maestro Aly Bain talks to Alex Norton about his love for American folk and roots music. Aly Bain's America has the Shetland fiddle maestro in conversation with Alex "Taggart" Norton, with a trip down memory lane to the mid 1980s, and Aly's filmed pilgrimages from the Appalachians to Texas, Louisiana and Nashville meeting and playing with some of the greats of American traditional music.
Great fun and genuinely historic encounters with the likes of "father of bluegrass" Bill Monroe, Johnny Gimble, Cajun legend Dewey Balfa, Tommy Jarrell, Jean Ritchie and (then) 92-year-old Elizabeth Cotten, composer of "Freight Train".
