Surprising musical twists with composer Alex Woolf

Alex Woolf opens up a selection of classical music from his point of view as a composer - revealing familiar and unfamiliar works in a new light.

Composer of the 鈥楴HS Symphony鈥 and the 鈥楳1 Symphony鈥 Alex Woolf finds music going to places you might not expect in today鈥檚 Inside Music. He discovers a mix of old and new in both Mozart鈥檚 Requiem and 鈥楳otion鈥 by Nico Muhly, and muses on the power of a single unbroken musical line in Oliver Knussen鈥檚 violin concerto.

He also reveals the unlikely but magical combination of four bassoons and soprano in a serenely beautiful aria by Rameau, and decides that Beethoven would have probably preferred people not to analyse his music too much, but just be taken over by the drama.

A series in which each week a musician explores a selection of music - from the inside.
