John Bishop and Michelle Visage
Zoe talks to John about his new chat show 'The John Bishop Show', and Michelle chats all things 'Drag Race'.
John chats to Zoe about 'The John Bishop Show' which includes stand-up plus celebrity interviews with the hottest names in film, TV, sport, music and more.
John made his stand-up debut in 2000, and since then it's been a steep uphill trajectory. He's appeared on: 'Michael McIntyre鈥檚 Comedy Roadshow', 'Live At The Apollo', 'Would I Lie To You', 'A League Of Their Own' and 'Have I Got News For You?.'. He's hosted the Royal Variety Performance, released an autobiography, had his own variety show ('The John Bishop Show') and presented his own travel show, 'John Bishop's Ireland' in which he road trips around Ireland.
Michelle chats all things 'Drag Race' with Zoe, of course. She's a television presenter, actor, and singer who rose to fame in 1993, as lead vocalist in The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. In 2011, she joined her long-time friend and collaborator Ru Paul, on the American reality competition series 'RuPaul's Drag Race', and has served as a permanent judge since season 3. She's also a permanent judge on 'RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars', 'RuPaul's Drag Race UK', and 'RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under'.
Along with Anthony Birchley on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, she and the team have the best start to your morning.
There's also a Pause For Thought from Reverend Richard Coles, and your calls, texts, emails and voice notes, as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

I called in to see a friend the other day, a country parson in Sussex, and while strolling past the duck pond a couple stopped me,听鈥淒idn鈥檛 you use to be a pop star?鈥 said one. Yes,鈥 I said.鈥 A long time ago鈥. You don鈥檛 look like someone who used to be a pop star,鈥 said the other. 鈥淢adam,鈥 I said,听鈥淚 didn鈥檛 look like a pop star when I WAS a pop star,鈥 and swept majestically past in my new听anorak.听I took no offence, but it did get me thinking; what听should听someone who used to be a pop star look like?

Artificially preserved, until reality triumphs, with its palette of greys, and blotchy pinks, and wrinkles, and shade? Already there. Age disgracefully, in unfeasibly skinny jeans, spiky hair, and a bondage jacket? I鈥檇 look like I鈥檇 been cast in a panto (hang on, I HAVE been cast in a panto). Stylish, age-appropriate, double-cuffed in a well-cut suit, fragrant with sandalwood and musk? I鈥檇 look like a 70s bingo caller. So what do I look like? I asked a frank and fashionable friend, who鈥檚 known me for forty years. He said, 鈥測ou look like a geography teacher off Grange Hill鈥. I used to look the part. I used to wear Gaultier on Top of the Pops, Paul Smith suits for photo shoots, Armand Basi on Ibiza in the Second Summer of Love. What happened?听

I think I hung up my glad rags when I chose Christianity. It was not a conscious thing, but we unconsciously adapt to our circumstances, and wearing Armani to a church jumble sale just looked wrong. Before I knew it I was in cargo pants, then, chinos and check shirts, and then sensible jumpers and trousers with Active Waist Technology (aka elastic). Of course there are dressy Christians, and good luck to them (and when it comes to vestments I am the Gianni Versace of the Diocese of Peterborough). The church is now in the season of Epiphany, when we are led by a star to Bethlehem to encounter Jesus Christ, not a king in glory, but a baby in rags, lying in a manger. That changes us, and our job 鈥 when we return to where we came from 鈥 is to be that change. I鈥檓 not saying that means we should henceforth start dressing badly: among his first visitors were kings, in bling galore. I鈥檓 saying don鈥檛 be surprised if it doesn鈥檛 look how you think it should.
