Today’s Radio Wales Arts Show focuses on theatre, revealing two new productions set to tour across the country and a plan to turn a much-loved Swansea theatre into a creative hub for new writers and performers.

Theatr Clwyd’s new production 'Milky Peaks' should have hit the stage in March 2020. But, just days before its opening night the pandemic stopped the show in its tracks. Now, as it finally prepares for its premiere we eavesdrop on rehearsals and hear from writer and performer Seiriol Davies.

Nicola Heywood Thomas talks to Gethin Evans, the director of another new drama, 'Ynys Alys', which explores a family’s history, leaving home and different definitions of independence. She's also joined by rap artist Lemarl Freckleton who co-created the show’s music.

She meets actors Christian Patterson and Richard Mylan, two founders of Grand Ambition, a new collective based at Swansea’s Grand Theatre which aims to "capture the arts through the Swansea lens" and give a platform for local writers and performers.

The prestigious Tir na n’Og Prize has been recognising the best new writing for children and young people in Wales since 1976. Organised by the Books Council for Wales, the annual award has done much to promote fiction authors and encourage new generations of readers. The 2022 shortlist has been drawn up by a panel of judges chaired by Alex Dukes and she joins Nicola to reveal which books are on that shortlist. The overall winner will be announced on the Radio Wales Arts Show on Friday 20th May.
