Helen Mark chats with the President of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, George Ussher.

Helen Mark meets George Ussher, who has served the Royal Scottish Pipe Band community for over three decades.

From the moment his daughter became involved in a pipe band, George Ussher was involved. Over three decades of service later, he talks to Helen Mark about the journey that led him 'by accident' to the top of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and its Northern Ireland Association.

As his time as president draws to a close, George reflects on the progress he’s seen in the pipe band community over the decades and his pride in what’s been achieved. He’s also candid in talking about the difficulty his recent illness brings to his role as president, and the strength he draws from his Christian faith.

With an eclectic taste in music, George has chosen three of his favourite pieces: the virtuoso Ukrainian accordionist – Alexander Hrustevich – playing part of Summer from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons; the St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band playing On Raglan Road; and How Deep the Father’s Love, by Celtic Worship.
