Surviving Srebrenica
A film about those who lived through and survived the Srebrenica genocide, the worst reported atrocity in Europe since the end of World War II.
In the final months of the war in Bosnia, the Bosnian Serb army seized the enclave of Srebrenica, an outpost of government territory in the Serb-held east of the country. The Serbs promptly rounded up some 20,000 inhabitants who had sought refuge at the UN base in the enclave and carted them away to government-held areas. Another group of mainly men and boys, attempted to make their own way through enemy territory to safe ground, some 50 km away. Approximately 8,000 men and teenage boys were hunted down and captured by the Serbs and later murdered in several locations. This film is the story of those who lived through the long siege of Srebrenica and the attempts to reach safety in the face of overwhelming odds.
