Daytime hunters like buzzards use vision to detect prey. In the breeding season they mainly eat young rabbits and buzzards can spot a moving rabbit from over a mile away if there is plenty of light, their eyes become almost like a telescope. They also have full colour vision. Such acute and detailed sight helps them survey a huge area without having to move, so rabbits would be unwise to venture far from their holes. From 300 feet up, a buzzard can see a rabbit very clearly. Coming in for the kill it will swoop down but the great majority of its attacks are failures. Luckily for the buzzards, they do not have to expend much energy on their attacks and the winds will carry them aloft again.
