Glaciers melted at the end of the ice age, and this vast quantity of water caused sea level to rise. We're worried about global warming making sea level rise a foot or two, but back then it increased by 300 feet, cutting the British Isles and Ireland off from the rest of Europe. Alan Titchmarsh visits evidence of this: a drowned forest at Bray in County Wicklow. These trees are revealed at low tide, lying where they grew and died 8,000 years ago.
