Halfway house
Few animals live halfway between the between canopy and the undergrowth of the jungle. Lizards and spiders hunt for insects on the bare tree trunks. Termites carry food from the forest floor up the tree to their nest within a tree trunk. Other termites hang their nests from tree branches. A bat uses one such termite nest as its roost, swooping out to catch insects and then back again to eat them.
